Some people I have coached have not seen value or realized how their Relationship Building helps them. Sure, they might love and connect with people well but you don’t see how that … helps. Often times, I think this is because you don’t realize that other people are different. Relationship Builders are often the workplace glue that holds teams together. It isn’t until a key Relationship Building person is sick, transferred, or leaves and the team falls apart. This is very intangible and tough to spot unless you know what you’re looking for.

On the flip side, most Relationship Building people are very keen on what is hindering you. Because you are so in tune with other people, their emotions and their energy can weigh you down like an emotional anchor. It can also be very hard to get things done. You see everyone else around doing the things and wonder why it’s so hard for you to do the same thing.
Well, that’s because you’re not the same. Which is a wonderful, amazing thing. As I mentioned earlier, you are very often the glue that holds a team (or friend group) together. People are your super power. And some times, just being with other people (or your best friends) can be that motivation that helps you get your work done. Other times, it is such a relief when you really realize that what you do best is people and not tasks. Relationship Builders are often the best managers because they bring out the best in others and help THEM do their best work.
If you find your Relationship Building hindering you, try leaning into your other talent themes to accomplish a goal. Or, if you are very predominantly Relationship Building, that might be a great opportunity for a partnership!
If you do find it easy to get things done, you might be an Executing person you can read about here.
