Last week we started talking about the third phase of my three phase leadership model.
Phase 1 is learning how to lead yourself—becoming the best version of yourself possible through tools like Gallup CliftonStrengths, Myers–Briggs Type Indicator, Working Genius, DISC and any number of assessments.
Phase 2 is learning how to lead individuals—showing the individuals you lead how to become the best versions of themselves the same way you did for yourself.
Phase 3 is learning how to lead leaders and teams.
If you want to go back to read through the first parts you can do that here.
One final thing I will share about my time with Captain Enzo is how he used his Includer®, Strategic®, and Restorative™ talents to find out the best way to do his debrief.
On cruise ships, crew work on contract schedules anywhere from three months for executive officers to eight months for individual contributors. These contracts are overlapping all the time with new crew coming on and off. This can be a huge challenge especially in leadership as you are constantly getting new faces in and out as part of your executive team.
One thing Captain Enzo shared he does is routinely asks his team how they want to do their debriefs to get a pulse of the team. Some people lean towards short and sweet. Others want to maximize their time and learn more from Captain Enzo and others.
His Includer® wanted to get everyone’s thoughts and options before his Strategic® could see the best way for that particular group to problem solve with his Restorative™.
These past few weeks have been a very surface level introduction to my three levels of leadership. Let me know which level you want me to dive into more!
