You don't have to figure this out by trial and error.
I remember my first workshop. I was so nervous and had so many questions. Do I know enough? Do I need a slide deck? What am I going to talk about? Do I know enough? (I asked myself that one twice, because that's how nervous I was.)
I fumbled through that workshop. And I'm still here.
That first workshop was more than 10 years ago. Since then I've facilitated hundreds of workshops. But I still remember what that first one felt like. I wanted to put together something that makes your first time easier, and better, than mine.
What's inside the checklist
This isn't a theory document. It's a practical, four—part checklist that walks you through what to do before, during, and after your workshop:
Before: what to prepare so you walk in feeling ready, not scrambling
Opening: how to start the workshop so people feel comfortable from the first few minutes
During: what to focus on to keep the conversation useful and on track
Closing: how to wrap up with practical takeaways so people leave with something they'll actually use
Who this is for
If you're a LD, TD, OD, or HR professional planning to run a Gallup CliftonStrengths® session for your team and you're not a certified coach, or this is your first time facilitating one then this checklist is for you.
One more thing
This checklist will get you through your first workshop with more confidence and less guesswork. If you'd rather not do it alone, or if you want your team's first CliftonStrengths experience to go further than a one-time activity, I'd be happy to talk through what a facilitated workshop could look like for your team.
